Programs for elementary, middle, and high school students at the NYC Department of Education Environmental Study Center, NYC Center for Space Science Education, Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Harlem DNA Lab, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Museum of the City of New York, New York Aquarium, Prospect Park Zoo, and Queens Zoo.

Elementary School

Animal Mysteries and Adventures at the Prospect Park Zoo

Open to students in Grades K, 1, and 2
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM every day

Participate in Prospect Park Zoo’s Animal Mysteries and Adventures Camp and become a “Zoo Detective” by learning all about zoo animals and solving unique mysteries based on animal adventures. As zoo detectives, campers will collect evidence and solve animal puzzles based on observations and their own scientific questions, as well as collaborate with their fellow young detectives. This week-long camp includes exhibit visits, live animal encounters, group activities, crafts, and hands-on scientific demonstrations, experiments, and more!

Week of Wildlife at the Bronx Zoo

Open to students in Grades 1 and 2
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM every day

Pleased to “meat” you! Join us during Spring Break as we meet carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores around the Bronx Zoo and discover the adaptations they have for eating. Learn about a Giraffe’s 18 inch long tongue, why a wild dog hunts with a pack, and so much more!

Animal Habitats at the Environmental Study Center

Open to students in Grade 2
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM every day

In Animal Habitats, campers will investigate and discover different habitats around the world and how animals adapt to their habitats in order to survive and thrive. Campers will engage in hands-on activities and animal encounters to better understand adaptations of animals. During this week-long camp, participants will also travel to the Queens Zoo to further study animals and their adaptations.

Weapons of the Wild at the Environmental Study Center

Open to students in Grade 3
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM every day

Poison, armor, camouflage, oh my! Discover how organisms defend themselves within their environment through hands-on learning and animal encounters in Weapons of the Wild at the Environmental Studies Center (ESC). This Spring Break camp includes a trip to the Queens Zoo where student scientists will work with an animal behavior specialist.

Wild Explorers at the Bronx Zoo

Do you love being outdoors and spending time in nature? The new Wild Explorers camp is perfect for young naturalists! Campers will spend the week outside traveling around the Bronx Zoo and learning about local habitats and native wildlife through nature walks, games, live animal demonstrations, scientific studies, and more. Campers should be ready for outdoor exploration and adventure that will leave them with a new appreciation for the natural world that surrounds the Zoo.

Interested in spending time with zoo animals and uncovering little-known facts about them? Join the Central Park Zoo for the Wild Explorers 4-day camp during Spring Break. Each day, campers will be scientists who go on zoofari adventures in exhibits and solve animal mysteries. Campers will also play animal-themed games, make critter-y crafts, meet our animals, make special treats for our zoo friends, and more!

I Spy New York: Capturing the City Through the Camera at the Museum of the City of New York

Open to students in Grades 3, 4, and 5
Monday, April 25-Thursday, April 28, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM every day

Join us to learn from the Museum of the City of New York’s renowned photography collection and work under the direction of a professional photographer to capture your own photographs! This interactive camp includes field trips to New York City sites where campers will learn about New York City history, the science of photography, and the engineering of buildings and bridges through the lens of photography. Each day includes the exploration of iconic landmarks and forgotten gems with a photographer guiding participants to take pictures of the city’s buildings and open spaces. Campers will learn how to use a digital camera, as well as photographic skills, as they are immersed in the city’s landmarks.

STEM STARS at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Open to students in Grades 4 and 5
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:30 PM every day

The STARS in STEM STARS stands for STudent Astronomers Reaching for Space! During Spring Break, 4th and 5th grade students will be immersed in the study of Mars exploration, engineering, and life in space. Campers will learn about the conditions astronauts would experience if they were to set foot on Mars, build model rovers and space capsules using recyclable materials, and participate in hands-on activities to better understand what is involved in sending astronauts to a planet 140 million miles away. Campers will also explore the Intrepid Museum’s exhibits as well as have access to our portable planetarium, 3D printers, and resources from NASA!

Emerging Scientists at the Queens Zoo

Open to students in Grades 4, 5, and 6
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM every day

Join us during Spring Break to explore the Queens Zoo and learn science, technology, engineering, and math through animal behaviors, exhibits, and nutrition. Each day campers will be immersed in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. All activities encourage campers to be creative, work collaboratively, share ideas, and gain an appreciation of animals in the zoo.

NYC Aerospace Camp at the NYC Center for Space Science Education

Open to students in Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM every day

During NYC Aerospace Camp, campers train as pilots using flight simulators in our NASA Aerospace Education Lab, build and program Mars rovers with EV3 LEGO robots, design, construct, and launch rockets, participate in activities that simulate astronaut training, learn about the history of space exploration, and more! This week-long camp is packed with hands-on excitement and activities preparing students for their ultimate mission: a simulated space adventure!

Marine Career Exploration Camp at the New York Aquarium

Open to students in Grades 6, 7, and 8
Monday, April 25-Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM every day

Middle-school students interested in learning about careers in marine biology, animal care, and jobs at living institutions like the New York Aquarium should join us at Marine Career Exploration Camp. During Spring Break, campers will engage in science activities related to daily career themes, and meet with professionals who help run and operate the Aquarium. This week-long exploration culminates in a special session where campers will present their work to families and friends.

DNA Science Camp at the Harlem DNA Lab

Open to students in Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 who have successfully completed Living Environment
Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29, 2016
Camp begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM Monday-Thursday; 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Friday

Interested in molecular genetics and modern biotechnology? Wish you had more time in the lab at school? Want to learn more about DNA? Apply now to attend DNA Science Camp at the Harlem DNA Lab during Spring Break! DNA Science Camp provides extensive lab experience with the basic techniques of recombinant DNA, including DNA restriction and ligation, bacterial transformation, and plasmid isolation. Campers will perform the entire lab sequence from the popular DNA Science text and will receive their own copy of the text to keep. Students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 who successfully completed Living Environment are eligible to apply.
