We all know how expensive it can become when trying to buy new clothes for our children’s wardrobe each season. Unlike our own closet where we can just add a few new pieces, most kids don’t fit anything from the year before. It’s great to find those affordable go-to places where you can pick up some staple pieces to start each season with. So with $100 budget, we headed to Kid City on Fordham Road to find some winter staples for my 3 and 9 year old’s wardrobe to see how far it would get us. Check out our haul:
For Gia, we grabbed these nice dark denim jeans- both straight leg so that they can be worn with boots, flats, or a cute pair of high-top sneakers. The adjustable waistband is perfect for Gia, since she is very petite but growing taller each month.
For cute and comfortable, we chose these fun textured sweatpants and this long sleeve printed shirt. The textured sweats are perfect to throw over her tights on the way to ballet, to pick up big sister from school, and even our cold Nature Club mornings at the Bronx Zoo.
The textured sweatpants kept Gia nice and warm while bird watching at Nature Club.
With the holidays here, there are lots of parties and events where we need to dress it up a bit. We chose some great solid staples for upcoming festivities. A nice black long sleeved shirt, a pair of thick black leggings, a shiny gray sweater, and a cute pair of solid black shoes are perfect to mix and match with other pieces or wear together as an outfit. The black top can be be layered with a cute fur vest or paired with a festive skirt. The sweater looks great with jeans, pants, or layered over a dress.
This simple black shoe with a cute bow is perfect to get your little one through the holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years!
Stylish, yet comfortable- perfect for toddlers
For a basic everyday piece, I found this black zippered sweater. Featuring a bit of textured design, it’s great for layering under coats or wearing over a dress.
My oldest Briana has always been taller and looked older than her age- so at 9 years old she is already a shoe size up from me and is in a size 16 in girls. Kid City carries styles from infant to juniors- so up to a size 14/16. There aren’t many stores left where I can find clothes for both my girls, so it was nice to find some pieces for Briana also.
Briana is most comfortable in sneakers, paired with either jeans, leggings, or some stylish sweat pants because she is always active and running around. So, I focused on some comfy sweaters and this great black sweatpant and sweatshirt combo- I liked that the fur hoodie adds some style to it. The color and pattern matches one of her pairs of sneakers perfectly, so it’s an outfit she can get a lot of use out of and also wear as separates.
I also chose these fun sweaters in two different colors. Paired with jeans or leggings and a cute pair of boots, fun sweaters are the perfect addition to a cozy winter outfit. They are light, so perfect for layering with t-shirts and taken off as need be.
In a house with three girls (including me!), it’s fun to be able to have some things we can borrow from one another. Accessories are definitely one of those items. We often share hats and scarves, so when I saw the fun selection of hats at Kid City, I chose a few for the girls to choose from.
I went with a solid black hat that can match any outfit and jacket, and then two fun hats. The hat on the right came with a pair of matching gloves too- makes for a perfect stocking stuffer gift also!
I also grabbed a solid black infinity scarf- I’m sure we will all be wearing this at some point this winter! The infinity scarves are great for my little one- keeps her neck and chest warm and doesn’t fall off from running around.

Aside from lots of hat, scarves, and gloves, Kid City has a huge selection of bows, barrettes, and other accessories. We picked up a cute burlap style bow, and some much needed headbands and hair ties- each around $1!
So there you have it! For $100 budget, we managed to pick up:
- 2 pairs of jeans
- 2 pairs of sweatpants
- 1 pair of leggings
- 4 sweaters
- 1 hoodie
- 2 shirts
- 3 hats
- 1 scarf
- 3 hair accessories
- 1 pair of shoes
With our haul we were able to get some great staples for a winter wardrobe without breaking the bank. In addition to the many items we found, Kid City also has coats, toys, uniforms, and more. Be sure to check out their Bronx location at 308 East Fordham Road and see the savings for yourself.
