Boo at the Zoo

Celebrate a New York Halloween tradition!

October weekends at the zoo, including Columbus Day and Halloween, will feature hay mazes, costume parades, musical theater, magic, and more. Visit bats, owls, vultures and other winged icons of Halloween, then embark on a trip back in time as you ride our Dinosaur Safari!

Jack O’Lantern Illumination — Creatures of the Night

Walk through a dark, eerie tunnel filled with more than 1,000 hand-carved and beautifully lit Jack ‘O Lanterns meticulously sculpted into various animal shapes. Created by Rise of the Jack ‘O Lanterns, the exhibit lanterns will consist of dozens of intricate, detailed portraits of animals ranging from bats, to reptiles, marine creatures, mammals, nocturnal birds, bugs, and mythical creatures.

Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Location: Somba Village

Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed

The narrated ride takes adventurers through a two-acre area of the zoo past more than 30 fully-animatronic dinosaurs as they move, snarl, and roar. The entire experience is designed to provide an understanding about how fossils and artifacts are meaningful clues to the mysteries of the past. Tour guides engage with zoo-goers and help them discover how fossils provide insight into what life may have looked like in prehistoric times.

Time: 10:00am – 5:30pm
Location: Boarding at Fordham Parking

Costume Parade

Alice Farley Dance Company will lead all of our costumed kids in a fantastical Dragon and Dinosaur Creature Parade that will feature magical, imaginary wildlife and dinosaur puppets created by Ms. Farley. The creatures will include a 10-foot Komodo dragon, a triceratops that towers over the crowd, and many other exciting characters. There will also be a beautiful butterfly with iridescent wings dancing on stilts, a zany, playful paleontologist and a musician playing drums and flute.
Times: 12:00 – 1:00pm and 2:00 – 3:00pm
Location: Starts at Zoo Center
Photos available at the end of each performance and from 3:30 – 4:00pm in Dancing Crane Plaza
