This Wednesday evening Dahlia and I trooped through the slush from our Bronx apartment to Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant in Times Square to join @themoms & @DrinkArizona for #GilbertMamarazzi to celebrate actress Melissa Gilbert’s new children’s book Daisy and Josephine. Melissa Gilbert is best known for her role as Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie so this was a really special event to share with my daughter because Little House on the Prairie was my moms favorite show growing up. This was a jam packed fun event so here’s the breakdown.
Buca di Beppo-
We were so happy to get off of the cold slushy nyc streets and into Buca di Beppo, a new family Italian restaurant located at 1540 Broadway with entrance on 45th street between 6th ave & Broadway, right above the famous Times Square Planet Hollywood. Inside is a warm, laid back, homey atmosphere that’s perfect for families, the walls are decorated in old school Italian posters and Dean Martin swoons over the sound system. We checked in, found our way to a table and helped ourselves to some yummy fresh baked bread before our dinner of brick oven pizza and spaghetti with meat sauce arrived. Just when we thought we couldn’t have another bite, out came the cannoli’s and brownies…YUM! I can’t wait to go back.
Reps from Arizona were on hand giving out samples of some of their new products such as Arizona kids, skinny girl sparklers and a new line of zero calorie liquid water enhancers. Dahlia loved the Arizona kids Arnold Palmer while I enjoyed a Skinny Girl Strawberry Lemonade Sparkler only 5 calories per serving.
After our yummy dinner Melissa Gilbert arrived with her adorable English bull dog Josephine in a precious red tutu (Josephine not Melissa). The kids (and some parents) gathered in front of her, listening intently as she read her new book Daisy and Josephine; a beautifully illustrated picture book about a shy little girl named Daisy whose daddy buys her a puppy named Josephine to keep her company and help her out of her shell. When she was done reading she happily answered questions about her book, her dog and even about her experience starring on Little House on the Prairie.
On the way out each family was given an Arizona tote bag with a Buca di Beppo pilsner glass, an Arizona liquid water enhancer and a signed copy of Daisy and Josephine, all of which we will put to good use. This event like all of The Moms events I’ve been to so far, was totally worth trooping through the snow for. –Dalilah Smith-Santos
