Making Books Sing’s IF YOU REALLY LOVE POLAR BEARS tells the story of Patchy, a little boy who loves polar bears and learns about the important role he can play saving the earth. The 30-minute performance incorporates music, puppetry and physical comedy to educate children about climate change and its impact on animal habitats. ConEdison sponsored a five-borough tour in winter 2011 to family audiences at various cultural institutions across New York City.
IF YOU REALLY LOVE POLAR BEARS was created in association with the Wildlife Conservation Society and premiered at the Bronx Zoo in spring 2011.
“The library is honored to participate in the Making Books Sing Summer Tour. We are grateful for the opportunity to educate and entertain our patrons on such important topics as literacy and the environment,” says Julia Chang of the New York Public Library. “Students of all ages are sure to enjoy the wonderfully-creative performance that will be featured in NYPL branches throughout the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.”
The NYPL serves some 16 million patrons who come through its doors annually; in addition, the Library’s website, www.nypl.org, welcomes 28 million visitors annually from more than 200 countries.
Performances of IF YOU REALLY LOVE POLAR BEARS are FREE to families and best for children ages 3 and up.
