Running through January 9, the Holiday Train Show offers New Yorkers (and visitors too!) a chance to see their city in a completely new way. Garden-gauge trains zip along a half-mile of tracks past 140 beloved New York landmarks, including the original Yankee Stadium, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and new this year, the Eero Saarinen-designed Trans World Airline Terminal at JFK Airport. Each iconic structure is masterfully crafted to scale from dried plant parts and arranged to create a dazzling miniature world inside the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory—a stunning Victorian-style glasshouse and a landmark itself. Included with your Holiday Train Show ticket is hands-on fun at Gingerbread Adventures in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, where kids explore the plant ingredients of this holiday treat. Children can smell, touch, and taste cinnamon, ginger, and other ingredients, and then create a field notebook about their favorite discoveries. Families also can decorate gingersnaps and delight in the display of whimsical, one-of-a-kind gingerbread masterpieces created by some of New York’s most imaginative bakers to reflect the theme: “Gingerbreads on Vacation”.
The ever-popular Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends TM Visits will be back in January. And this year there are two new train shows for kids: The Little Engine That Could TM Puppet Show (November 30 & select days in December) and Tootle TM (select days in November & December – visit nybg.org for details).
