I took advantage of a beautiful summer day and took my girls to The New York Botanical Garden while my son, Alex was in summer school. We experienced the Edible Garden. The cook from Growing Chefs made an apricot parfait. Alyson had a very, very, very hard time sitting still for this demo but nonetheless Becky and I enjoyed our first cooking show. The stage was on the lawn in front of the Conservatory. The weather was perfect for outdoor cooking. The tent allowed for a great breeze and great views. In the end we got to taste the parfait and it was yummy. Two thumbs up! The birds, bees and dragonflies were out enjoying the lovely summer flowers. The sweet smells floated on the breeze. We even saw a hummingbird. It moved too fast for a picture. The only thing that was disappointing was the Conservatory was closed for upgrades. It is going to reopen in November. Good thing I was able to experience it in the spring. Becky’s favorite part was the water fountain in the Children’s Garden. It’s a frog shaped garden surrounded by a pond. When you push down on the Lilly pads around the pond, a burst of water flies up out of the pond. My favorite part of our trip was Edible Garden and Aly’s fav was just walking around in a quiet environment. The New York Botanical Garden is sensory-friendly. The quiet environment is easy on the senses. The smells of the nature has a calming affect on the senses, too.

Sounds like a wonderful outing! Must take my niece and nephew. They need to take in some quiet beauty.
